Up, Up and Away Birthday Balloons card

Hello, hello, hello! Thanks for stopping by! This is my card I created for Shopping Our Stash Challenge #276 Home Sweet Home – Use a house or a building! I went with a skyline of a city after I saw a commercial that had a balloon going over a city, over the mountains, over the ocean and then grouping together with a bunch of other balloons! I can’t remember what the commercial was for but it inspired me to make this card! If you pull the tag, all the other balloons appear!

Here is how I did it: I started by stamping out my city and masking out and stenciling the clouds on to a piece of paper cut to 4×5 1/4, covered it up with vellum to make it look like there was some distance. I then stamped the city on gray card stock and added distress ink over it to give some shading (I also had to put a scrap piece of card stock behind it to give it some stability as the paper was flimsy and couldn’t maintain it’s shape). I die cut a bunch of pink balloons and added shading and temporarily adhered them to the acetate so I could figure out where to put them so they wouldn’t show until the tag was pulled. I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment and fussy cut it out. I cut a piece of acetate to 4×5 1/4 to make the tag and traced a shaped die cut for the top and cut it out with scissors and punched a hole in the center.

To assemble the card: (See picture below) I cut out two slots towards the bottom for my slider area and placed some foam squares to form a “catch” for the tag so it would not slide all of the way out of the card. It was at this point that I realized that I should have made my gray card stock wider so I could put some foam tape along the sides to actually adhere it down but then I thought, hey, why not just cut out pieces along the bottom where they won’t show when the tag is pulled? So, to make this work, I cut out some notches in the acetate and placed foam tape so the gray card stock would stick to the back of the card and not interfere with the slider! Brilliant! I added some ribbon to the top and done!

  1. Oh my goodness Cyndi, this is an awesome, fun card/tag!!! Love the illusion of distance on the buildings covered with vellum, and the pull out balloons….. how clever and creative. Thank you for the tutorial, love it.
    Hugs,
    Maria.
